Introduction to Visual Art
For the first two classes students need only one newsprint pad, pencils, permanent markers, kneaded eraser, magic rub eraser and 2 sticks of charcoal. Students will need different media as the class develops, each student is responsible for bring their own supplies. Supplies may be purchased at Boise Blue Art Supply on Jefferson in Boise, Quality Art Supply in Garden City. or wherever art supplies are sold.
- 4 sq. sticks blk. charcoal
- 4 lg. white sticks
- 1 blk. ball point pen
- 2 blk. permanent markers - fine pt.
- 1 blk. jumbo marker
- 2 Sanford Ebony smooth blk pencils
- Asst. Conte crayons
- 2 blk, 2 white, 2 sanguine
- 2 bottles India ink
- 1 large and 1 small bamboo bushes
- 1 small box oil pastels
- 1 box color crayons
- 1 #10 synthetic filbert brush
- 1 tube raw sienna acrylic paint
- 1 tablet disp. pallettes
- 2 sm. tubes Speedball oil based printing ink blk. + brwn or small tubes of oil paint
- 1 lg. blending stump
- 1 box asst. reg. pastels, several sizes drawing sticks
- 2 18x24" newsprint pads smooth + rough

- Large portfolio bag: cloth, paper, cardboard, storage (tackle) box for small supplies

Advanced Visual Art
Basic supply list for acylic painting* and basic sketching supplies.** Students will be expected to supplement their supplies when needed or for special event projects.
- Brushes: #6, #10, filberts; #6, #8, #12, Flats; #4, #6, #12, round; synthetic brushes (individual) or by the set. Two 2" cheap bristle brushes
- Paint: cadmium red, cadmium yellow, lemon yellow, cadmium orange, sap green, alizarin crimson, yellow ochre, burnt sienna, burnt umber, pthalo blue, pthalo green, ultramarine blue, cobalt violet, white (large tube), mars black, paynes grey.
- Supports: 9x12," 12"X16," 16x20," canvass boards 16x20 stretched canvass, 30"x40" #300 cold press illustration board (cut in 4 pieces).
- Misc: large canvass or cardboard art carrier, small tool or tackle box for painting supplies, palette knife (plastic or metal), rags, roll paper towels, plastic or glass palette, or tablet disposable paper pallette, bladesmith paint scraper, water container 1 -2-5 qt., 16 oz. matt or palette with cover, color wheel.
*acrylics, rather than oils due to low ventilation standard for distillates.
- Sketching supplies: 2 Sanford Ebony blk. pencils, 18x24" newsprint pad, 9X12" sketch pad or book, 11x14" tracing pad, 1 kneaded eraser, 1 reg. rubber eraser.

(Students will also need poster board, but the number of poster boards will vary per class and at this point

- Digital Camera, 5 mega-pixel resolution or better. this course is designed to help students learn
to use the techniques of a photo manipulation software (Photoshop) to modify and enhance
their photos. It is not therefore necessary to have a high end digital camera. Most point and
shoot cameras will have the capabilities to accomplish these tasks. If students are interested in a
more advanced camera and want to use one they are more than welcome to do so.
- 1 gigabyte (or larger) flash drive/memory stick.
- 1.5 inch 3 ring binder with dividers.
- ½ inch spiral bound notebook with holes for 3 ring binder.
- Pack of 50 sheets of high quality photo paper (HP, Epson, Kodak, Canon) students without
paper will not be able to print and complete their weekly assignments.
- $25 lab fee to cover the cost of printing inks and other mounting materials used for weekly
projects. (Payable to ArtsWest.*)
*An additional fee of 75 cents will be added for each mounting board required for weekly
assignments.
- a roll-up exercise mat
- loose, comfortable clothing (for stretching and Tai Chi)
- a pair of running shoes
- a comfortable, broke-in pair of light hiking shoes or boots (mid-height prefered but decent trail running shoes would be okayas long as they fit well and are broken-in)
- clothing to get dirty in
- warm clothing for winter hikes
- a quality (but inexpensive) compass - will not be needed in the first weeks; suggestions for purchase will be provided in class
- binoculars and field guides are recommended but not required
AP Calculus BC
