ArtsWest PFA Meeting Notes
May 6, 2008
Attendees:
Stacy Finley, Katie Kendall, Audrey Simmons, Jan Camp, Ed Camp, Ethan Kartchner, Kathy Kartchner, David Hutter, Jennifer Wolf, Ronda Baines, John Nesbit, Heather Thurston-Nesbit, and Lorraine Robinson.
Our meeting started at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, in Room 3.
Grand Staff Celebration on May 5
We express our thanks to Ronda Baines for coordinating all of the many volunteers who decorated, brought food, cleaned up and provided the lunch for the administration and faculty at ArtsWest. It was well received and turned out great!
Graduation
Mrs. Klein will be taking the seniors to breakfast, then they’ll have rehearsal, eat lunch at the park (bring their own food) and graduation is at 4 p.m.
Graduation will consist of receiving diplomas, chamber choir music, jazz choir for school song and speakers, which will include Katie Kendall, Janell Limb, Mrs. Klein and maybe Mrs. McCloskey.
Help will be needed in many areas. Please watch for the letter that Kathy Kartchner will send out which will explain ways for parents to help—set up, decorating, cleanup, flowers needed., etc.
A graduation date should be chosen early next year to make it easier to coordinate date and location.
Senior Project Presentations - everyone invited - May 20, 7-9 p.m. at Holy Trinity Church at the corner of 3rd and State in Meridian.
Scholarship Meeting coming up next week (May 13, 2008)
Many suggestions were made regarding volunteering at the school. While we need support from the entire school community, ideas were shared with the feeling that there should be time commitments or money donated to ensure participation by families on scholarship. Some of the committees/events that will need support are listed here: Candlelight Rhapsody, Teacher appreciation, Graduation, Open houses, Concerts/Performances, Hospitality, Technical support, Tea Party, Fund raising for kids who need money for school trips. Much help is needed and cannot be done without the support of everyone! A volunteer coordinator may be a necessary position to help all of these groups function well.
Service Hours and Timelines
Students are required to have 100 dates on their timelines by Thursday, May 8. Ideas were shared on whether these activities have been done by students in a meaningful way and whether or not they’re getting done. A planner might help the students keep track of hours better and the timeline needs more coaching and mentors to get it done well.
ArtsWest PFA Attendance
We need teachers as part of our PFA and also some administrators to help ideas cross back and forth between administration and parent help. We’d like all parents to belong to our PFA and help us support the school
Yearbooks
Heather Thurston-Nesbit has ordered the yearbooks and half of them are already sold. Only 80 were ordered…be sure to get yours ordered if you want one. Yearbooks will probably be distributed on May 28.
UPCOMING PICNIC AND MEETING
ArtsWest families: Bring your own picnic and join us on July 1, 6:30 p.m. at Guerber Park on Hill Rd in Eagle. Walk up to the lean-to and read which spot was reserved for our group. This will be a way for the students to see each other again and discuss any summer events taking place and start planning how we can support the school as we start into the next school year.
Check the website and your email often to be informed.
Please check the ArtsWest website for current and further information. Keep informed on what’s going on at the school and with the students. Attend events and support our students! We have a great school and it only gets better as we participate and lend our help.
